Course Description

Successfully completing this course will equip you with the skills, knowledge, and—most importantly—confidence to provide first aid to anyone experiencing a sudden illness or injury, such as asthma or anaphylaxis. This course is designed for all workers and community members who may need to respond to an asthma or anaphylaxis emergency in various settings.

You’ll learn how to develop effective risk management and risk minimization strategies for individuals at risk of asthma and anaphylaxis in the workplace. This includes creating and implementing pre-emergency risk assessments and individual management plans tailored to those with asthma or anaphylaxis.

This course offers nationally recognized training for workers and designated workplace first aiders across all industry sectors. You’ll gain valuable insights into providing care for both adults and children who are diagnosed as being at risk or showing signs of asthma or anaphylaxis.

The following unit(s) will be awarded to successful participants in this course. 

22556VIC - Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace
22578VIC - Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis

The certificate will be issued by Allens Training Pty Ltd - RTO 90909.
Course Delivery
In the workplace, school, private venue or at a third party facility organised by Miller First Aid.
Certificate Renewal Requirements
36 months
Course Duration
Online Training with Face to Face Assessment: approximately 2-3 hours of self-paced online learning (including theory assessment) in addition to 1 hour face to face practical assessments.
Assessment Requirements
Practical demonstrations:

Administer asthma medication (with a spacer)
Administer asthma medication (without a spacer)
Administer an adrenaline autoinjector for anaphylaxis
Provide first aid for an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis

Documentation:

Complete a First aid/Incident report form
Complete a Risk Assessment
Complete an Individual Management Plan, which includes a Communication Plan 

Theory assessment:
a written exam consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions
Entry Requirements
As a minimum, entrants to the course must have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3. An example of an ACSF Level 3 competency is being able to read and comprehend the ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis, use and respond to communication techniques to request appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of a First Aid incident and use writing skills to complete incident reports.

Physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills.

Online/pre-course study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/pre-course studies (if required).
