Provide Advanced First Aid
Course Description
Challenging situations, like multiple casualty incidents or the need to move or extricate individuals in distress, can be daunting and high-risk. That’s why it’s essential to have the right training, so you feel prepared and confident when faced with real-life emergencies.
This course offers practical, hands-on simulations that reflect real-life scenarios, helping you build the skills and confidence needed to effectively coordinate and manage a response. You’ll learn to provide advanced first aid in alignment with legal, community, and workplace considerations, as well as guidelines from the Australian Resuscitation Council and other national clinical bodies, until emergency services arrive.
We’ll cover the basics of first aid and CPR, along with treatments for more advanced conditions such as hypothermia, hyperthermia, head, neck, and spinal injuries. You’ll also learn how to use tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding, and how to manage a casualty in shock.
Additionally, the course emphasises the importance of accurately recording the casualty's condition, completing workplace incident documentation, and engaging in debriefing sessions to identify areas for improvement. We’ll discuss recognizing psychological impacts and the importance of seeking help when needed.
